October 30th, 2025: some days are much better than others

today ended up being a really good day! I had a really good therapy session before work and we came up with a game plan to sort out my harm OCD, which has made me feel really hopeful that it'll be alleviated like my contamination OCD has been.

then on my lunch break I hit up the thrift and picked up Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Walk the Line. ay physical media collection is coming together nicely. also my copies of Requiem For a Dream and Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Arc came in the mail. plus Fishing With John. my hope is that I can get my hands on maybe a few seasons of a TV show to round out the haul this pay period and be done with it.

I want to get to a place where I'm not paying for streaming services. reading Enshittification has hammered home for me just how much I don't want to give these platforms any more of my money. like, I'm not new; I knew they're evil and soulless corporations. knowing and feeling are two different experiences, though. it's like how, when I was in active addiction, I knew it was not a good move to drink and do drugs. something about going to Las Vegas this month and seeing American excess at its flashiest and most blatant just did something to my brain that I'm not sure I can come back from, and it's made me want to relinquish any and all support I have for these entities which make money off of captivating us like this. (unfortunately, Hulu has me by the tits because, another good thing about today: King of the Hill was renewed for seasons 16 and 17. ugh and yay, together at once.)

this weekend will be a very busy time indeed! I'm so happy Halloween falls on a Friday. we'll be hanging out with another family from our school district who also love Halloween. then the following day is All Saint's Day; I will be cleansing and blessing my altar and religious artifacts in preparation to put it together on next Wednesday's Beaver Moon (which happens to coincide with my late grandmother's birthday). the cherry on top comes on Sunday: Daylight Savings Time. I like to use the "extra" (yes, I know) hour we get to do a chore around the house, so I'll be putting together some shelving I've been meaning to, to give The Country Brat some more storage space in her room and be able to put our physical media collection in the living room.

I just want to be the cool goth mom I needed 20 years ago, I guess.
